Legal considerations
The purchase of a home with both an occupier and investor (i.e. a child and a parent), requires that the rights and obligations of both be clearly outlined and understood. Of course you should do this in any real estate dealing, but with family it is often too easy to just say “we’ll work that out later.”
We don’t want you to do that, and so we will help you locate and work with an experienced real estate attorney to draft what we call an occupancy agreement. This agreement touches on and clarifies the responsibilities of both the buyers, and in so doing protects everyone.
